AiKiDoooooo
I just did something which i never think i will be doing for my life….
I just came back from the Aikido 5th Kyu grading at a dojo in brickfield. This was my 1st time ever going for this kind of activities in my nearly 21 years of life.
Picking up Aikido since i was in semester 1 under the influence of my OO– Michelle and Janet. I had never been exposed to any martial art b4 that. At 1st i was not very keen on going for the training session held every tuesday in Uni coz i am not the kind of ppl that will excel in this activities as i am so slow in picking up the technique taught by sensei.I need more time than the others to be able to do the technique. As i was the only sem 1 learning aikido with other seniors, i often felt so left out and so paiseh whenever the rest of the class already master certain technique and i had not.
Thanks to all the other seniors who are willing to teach me patiently during and after the class. Things getting better as time past. I started to pick up the speed and the technique. This make me getting more interested in this art. The more often i went for the training, the better i can do the technique. Soon i found back the confidence and was no longer afraid to learn new techniques.
After persistant training for at least 2 times a week, sensei said we are ready to go for our very 1st grading. We went to the dojo around 10am. After being brief by Tony sensei regarding some common mistakes which many of the juniors like us will make, we waited for our turn for grading.I was in the 1st pair. Felt so nervous when i started to do de technique. OMG, i was totally blank when sinseh shouted out the 1st technique. I just stand there for a few seconds and tried to figure out which technique am i supposed to do.
Luckily things went on smoothly after i get into the situation. I managed to do all the other techniques asked by sensei. After finished my part, Wei Ee who was my partner did his part too. Then we proceeded with Sanin Gake which means 3 ppl attacks. I had to counter 3 ppl’s attack at 1 time. This was the part which i scare the most. Fortunately i survived from that. My grading actually ended quite fast according to seniors as they said theirs take much longer time than ours. After finished the whole thing we waited for our seniors to do the 4th and 3rd kyu.
It was an eye-opening opportunity to see the others do the higher rank grading. The way they did the techniques were so energetic and fast. The flow in their techniques were so smooth and i can only say the only way to achieve that is by continuous training. The whole thing ended around 2.30pm. Then we gathered again to hear the comments from the senseis. The senseis were satisfied with our performance and they just pointed out some of our weak points. Senseis also show the way to improve on some certain techniques.Seeing the sensei do the techniques are even more enjoyable. He was able to do some simple techniques in his own way and make the techniques look so perfect. True enough the saying:" the easiest and simplest technique in aikido is the one that is most difficult to do"
I started to like this art more now. As sensei was saying: Aikido is a life long learning martial art which one can continue to pursue if we wanted to. The whole teaching system of aikido was integrated and all start from the very basic techniques. In Aikido there is no need for us to learn 100 ways to cope 100 situation instead we only need to equip ourself with 1 way and we can cope 100 of ways of attack. 1 more thing i like about this art is that there is no violence in it. Every movement is just natural way of contact. All we need to do is just to find the weakest point of the opponent and use minimum force to avoid the attack and to counter the attacker.
I will definitely continue to learn more about this art. Really happy i went for this grading. It is surely an experience which i will never be getting from any way else. Oh ya, congrats to all who went for the grading coz we all managed to pass the grading.
